Intake Policy

Bay Area Adoption Services (BAAS) does not discriminate on the basis of age, marital status, family size, income, race, religion, or ethnic background against any person wishing to parent a foreign-born child. Both single parent and married couples can be eligible to adopt. Each adoption application is considered on an individual basis.

We do only cooperative placements. This means that BAY AREA ADOPTION SERVICES does not have custody of the adoptable children. Rather, we assist adopting parents, who have been married for at least one year if married or who are single, in meeting local and foreign requirements for adoption. The ultimate selection of a family for a specific child, therefore, is the responsibility of that child's agency/agent.

Both Bay Area Adoption Services and its clients must comply with state and federal adoption laws, as well as the requirements of the child's agency/agent, and the laws of the foreign country from which the child comes.

State Law
Adopting parent(s) must be ten (10) years older than the child being adopted, and must receive state fingerprint clearance.

Federal Law
To obtain a visa for a foreign-born child, one adoptive parent must be a U.S. citizen, must submit an approved homestudy with specific content, and must receive federal fingerprint clearance.

Child's Agency/Agent Requirements
Those vary according to agency

Foreign Country Laws
Vary according to country
