We do only cooperative placements. This means that BAY AREA ADOPTION SERVICES does not have custody of the adoptable children. Rather, we assist adopting parents, who have been married for at least one year, in meeting local and foreign requirements for adoption. The ultimate selection of a family for a specific child, therefore, is the responsibility of that child's agency/agent.
Both BAY AREA ADOPTION
SERVICES and its clients must comply with state and federal adoption laws,
as well as the requirements of the child's agency/agent, and the laws of
the foreign country from which the child comes.
Adopting parent(s)
must be ten (10) years older than the child being adopted, and must receive
state fingerprint clearance.
To obtain a visa for
a foreign-born child, one adoptive parent must be a U.S. Citizen, must
submit an approved homestudy with specific content,
and must receive federal fingerprint clearance.
Those vary according
to agency
