CCAA Announces China Adoption Guidelines Changes
Revisions to Eligibility Guidelines Established by the China Center of Adoption Affairs (CCAA) December 2006
The following new eligibility guidelines were introduced at CCAA’s annual year end meeting held in Beijing on 12/8/06. We have been informed of them the week of 12/11/06. With the exception of a fee increase (of $130-$210) that goes into effect on 1/1/07, the following guidelines will apply to people whose dossier is registered (or logged in) by the CCAA on or after 5/1/07. Please contact the BAAS office or the China program coordinator if you have any specific questions.
New Guidelines
These are based on the verbal communication from CCAA at its 12/8/06 meeting. CCAA will publish the new guidelines in the near future, at which time we do not anticipate CCAA’s written publication of the new guidelines to be very different from the following:
- Single/unmarried applicants will no longer be eligible to adopt from China, either for the waiting child or regular process.
- Married a minimum of 2 years if it’s a first marriage; minimum of 5 years if current marriage is 2nd or 3rd (at time dossier is logged in by CCAA). No more than two previous marriages allowed on either side.
- Age of both applicants: 30-49 years old (at time dossier is logged in by CCAA). Those aged 50 to 55 years old may be considered for a waiting child adoption.
- Body Mass Index (BMI) no greater than 40.
- Net worth must be a minimum of $80,000.
- Education level must be at least a high school diploma.
- Child in home (if there is a young child) must be at least 1 yr old or older at time dossier is sent to China.
Unchanged guidelines which remain in effect:
- Minimum income of $30,000 + $10,000 for each child in home
- No more than 4 children currently in home
- Excellent health; mild medical conditions may be ok (please inquire)
