vietnam

Vietnam has recently re-opened to allow international adoptions.  US agencies who wish to work in this country must be approved by the Department of International Adoption (DIA).  While Bay Area Adoption Services is not licensed in Vietnam, we are privileged to partner with several agencies that have active programs in this country.

TYPES OF CHILDREN

Most children available for adoption in Vietnam are orphans or relinquished at birth by young women due to poverty. Some infants who are placed in “family centers” were born premature and/or have low birth weight. Infants, toddlers and older children are available for adoption. Some background information may be presented regarding birth parent information.

REQUIREMENTS

Married couples and single people are accepted
Must be 50 or under to adopt an infant

TIME INVOLVED

The wait time for referral can vary depending upon which placement agency the family chooses.  In general, however, there is a 9 to 12 month wait for a referral, providing that the dossier is complete and accepted by Vietnamese government.  The wait for girls is always longer than for boys.  Upon acceptance of referral, the family has 30 days before travel and stay must in country for 14 days.

FEES involved

  • BAAS FEE  $4,900
    • Includes registration, pre-adopt class, homestudy, paperwork assistance, CIS support, overseas program consultation, 2 post placement visits, assistance in obtaining a California birth certificate for the child and all post-adoption paperwork.  Most adoptions from Vietnam are adopt-abroad adoptions and children will enter the US on an IR3 visa.  If both parents of married couple do not see the child before completion of the process, the adoption will be considered an inter-country adoption.
