family stories

BAAS is very proud to have helped hundreds of families successfully complete the adoption process. Many parents stay in close touch after they come back home and we are pleased to showcase a few of their stories.

"When they asked if we would consider adopting twins, we thought how much work can it be. Now we know. We're over ten years into the exciting, humbling and educational journey of parenthood. We're thrilled to remain involved with BAAS and their mission of uniting children and families."

"We adopted our daughter Julia in 2001. We were impressed with the focus BAAS placed on educating us as adoptive parents. The "Older Child Adoption" class was very helpful, and the entire staff was there to assist us through the entire process. I am proud to be a part of a group of adoptive parents and professionals who continue the rewarding experience of helping others build their families through international adoption."

"Thank you BAAS for your heartfelt assistance throughout the 19 month adoption process with the Philippines. God has a sense of humor. After 6 years of trying to have a baby, we were unsuccessful. Then we decided to adopt ... and now we have 3 kids, Ally, A. Neo and Amanda. We appreciate your guidance and that 3-inch binder of detailed information during the process. The ongoing newsletters and annual picnics are great so we can still feel connected with other adoptive families."

Anthony and Arlene Marcos
(adopted from the Philippines)

"The "white binder" we received at the new parent orientation seemed intimidating, but BAAS helped us with every step along the way.  No matter how many times we called or emailed, we got a prompt answer to our question.  Once we were ready to work with China,  the China coordinator made sure we were kept up on every detail.  We felt very well taken care of. "We are very indebted to BAAS for all the help and encouragement given to us to help complete our family with the adoption of Sophia and Siju.  We can't imagine going through this arduous process without the support and technical services provided by this agency.  We and our family will always be indebted to you."

(adopted from China)

"When we were ready to be a family...BAAS more than helped us get there. We learned so much from the class and parent-led adoption process. Their China facilitator is the best! We understood every step of the way and are now we're a family of four. We'd do it all over again in a heartbeat!"

Wilma Chu
(adopted from China)

"After a very long and arduous adoption process dealing with two government bureaucracies (USA and the Philippines), we finally received God's ultimate GIFT - - our PRECIOUS DAUGHTER KRISSY. Thank you BAAS for facilitating the process and being with us through it all."

Mike and Lirio Dufala
(adopted from Philippines)

We began our journey to start a family through BAAS feeling "cautiously optimistic" and not knowing how to take the first step. We did not realize then how quickly adoption would bring us two beautiful children, Miku and Yoshi, and so much joy and happiness. BAAS was an invaluable resource, guiding and encouraging us through the process. We can't thank them enough for making our dreams come true."

Tohru and Emi Sato
(adopted from Japan)

"BAAS is the number one agency for standing with their clients from the very beginning to bringing our children home. Now the Medina family is complete with one in preschool and one in kindergarten. Our older children are in college now. We get to redecorate the rooms in pink and save for college again for the year 2020. It is true, you have to be careful what you wish for, BAAS makes it happen. "

"We dreamt about having a child and BAAS made our dream come true. Now, we're ready for child #2!"

Gladys Antonio
(adopted from the Philippines)

"We had a wonderful experience working with BAAS for the adoption of our daughter from China. From the orientation meeting to the facilitation of our travel to the follow up support and guidance once we returned, the staff and volunteers at BAAS have always been there for us. When we met our daughter, Alma Grace, for the first time it felt to us more like a reunion than a first meeting. She is pure joy! "

John and Sherry Squire Mitchell
(adopted from China )

"BAAS has a great t-shirt that they sell every year at their annual picnic which says, 'One World, One Family'. Maybe it’s a pipe dream, but it sure makes sense when I look at my two beautiful daughters, who are each from different parts of the world. When I look at my girls, all I see are two beautiful children who have enriched my life. The environment at BAAS is truly a family, and they walked me through every step of the process, and answered all of my questions with a smile. I used BAAS for both of my adoption experiences, and I would highly recommend them to anyone."

Polly Huntsinger
(adopted from China and Ethiopia)

"First of all, our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for making our family complete. From the very beginning, BAAS staff remained very positive and always there to guide us to the next step of our adoption process. We were all excited when we got a referral, after all, adoption agencies we previously worked with in the past, came out fruitless. Let’s just say that with BAAS staff continued assistance, guidance, and care, we actually touched the light on the other side of the journey."

Debor and Marylou Untal
(adopted from the Philippines)

"Thanks to BAAS, our dreams of having a family have come true. The friendly and helpful staff, with their wealth of experience in international adoptions, made the otherwise painful adoption process more personal and satisfying.  The staff at BAAS held our hands through the emotional ups and downs of the adoption process, and we will always think of them as extended family who turned our dreams of having our beautiful daughter home a reality.  Thanks always for the most precious gift in our lives!"

Geetha and Subodh Shankar

"My homestudy and post-placement visits for my oldest son, Ben, were done by BAAS, and they were truly excellent. But this was only part of the story. At every step of the way, whenever I had questions about immigration issues or the legal process, the BAAS staff always knew the answer , and would respond to my e-mails immediately. BAAS was also very supportive of my adoption as a single father, and has asked me multiple times to volunteer at the pre-adoption class for prospective parents, together with Ben, to show the diversity and the success of the families adopting through BAAS. When the time came for the adoption of my second son, Tim, there was no question in my mind that I would again ask the help from BAAS."

Rob F. Van der Wijngaart
(adopted from Guatemala)

"Adopting my two girls from China was the best thing in the world. BAAS will help you do the same with its extensive experience in overseas adoption."

Joe Kafka and Deb Siebrand
(adopted from China)

"Beyond doing a great job with every aspect of our adoption, BAAS has given us great educational support to guide us in our parenting journey.  Our social worker shared her experiences as an adoptive parent and referred us to excellent publications.  Since then, we've joined the FAIR Parent Group that meets monthly at BAAS and have benefited from the connection with this adoptive community."

Jerry & Pat Brodkey
(adopted from Guatemala)

"When we finally decided to adopt, we wanted to work with an agency who gave us the attention, direction, and guidance that we sought - BAAS was that agency.  Our experience with BAAS was extremely positive, that we decided to adopt a second time.  We have two beautiful daughters from China and are forever grateful to BAAS and everyone associated with running a top notch agency.
